Hip hop has already been a hot topic this year , thanks to Imus, 50, and Mr. West. . . just in time for the 2007 VH1 Hip Hop Honors Weekend. The annual awards celebration which will kickoff Oct. 5 and end Oct. 8, and will also include a panel discussion on hip hop and misogyny.
The events will be all over New York City, and will include a tour featuring The Roots, Big Daddy Kane and MC Lyte at the Nokia Theatre and a Celebrity Hoops "Old Skool vs. New School" basketball game at the Brooklyn campus of Long Island University which will include Common and, ironically, Matthew Knowles.
Saturday Night Live's last funny comedian, Tracy Morgan, is set to host the Hip Hop Honors Awards ceremony. A Tribe Called Quest, Snoop Dogg, WHODINI, Missy Elliott, the film "Wild Style," and the new jack swing architects Teddy Riley and Andre Harrell will be honored, and performers range from T.I. to Timbaland.
On Oct. 5, New York's model-esque DJ, Beverly Bond, in collaboration with Black Girls Rock! will host a panel discussion on hip hop's war with the women: "Hip Hop: Does Hip Hop Hate Women?" The panel will take place at the Museum of the City of New York, and will include luminary hip hop scribes and VIBE blogger Mark Anthony Neal and VIBE's original staff writer Joan Morgan.

I don't believe Hip Hop hates women, not as long as they keep spending money on that mess.

Eric Cunningham says:
Hip Hop has never had a war with women. When it all started, just like religion, women were at the top with all other mc from all walks of life. Now female mc are rare if not extinct and not respect....as in religion. Betty white was the MC of her day " Clean up woman" MC Lyte, Sheila E and others.... Back then there was a variety of female MCs now... The only ones who are in the media light are the risque types... Hip Hop has always been a platform for men and women to speak about issues that were not being addressed in the community. Like most things, when it goes corporate, the game and the player change to fit concepts and images that are palatable for "society to take.... That is why most of the women are protrayed and trying to be men and men are deem angry and aggressive... both set up for the witch hunts.... Hip Hop unite...... Let us not forget the other nationalities that were down in the beginning ie Charlie Chase from the Cold Krush Brothers..... Hip Hop Unite...
