Oprah Winfrey has announced that Alicia Keys will be starring as Lena
Horne in a new biopic produced by the media behemoth.
Oprah told the New York Post that plans are being secured for filming to start next year. In previous years, Janet Jackson expressed intense interest in starring as the jazz legend, but in 2004, after Janet's alleged "wardrobe malfunction" at the Super Bowl, Horne balked at the idea and suggested Jackson fall back from that wish.
TV writer Lloyd Kramer will write the script. The film will be based upon Horne’s fame following the rendition of “Stormy Weather” in 1943.
In the past, Keys has had roles in 2006’s Smoking Aces, and 2007’s The Nanny Diaries.
