Actor’s defense team decides to rest

Celebrities out the woodwork were expected to be brought out to speak on behalf of Hollywood actor Wesley Snipes, but instead of talking about his prowess as a former Tinseltown movie star, they were set to testify concerning his alleged failure to pay taxes.

Snipes defense attorney, Robert Barnes, was set to bring up a gaggle of power players, ranging from Muhammad Ali, to Sylvester Stallone and Woody Harrelson, but called off the defense, telling E! “We could have put on a big show, but we don't do that. We're not going to waste the jury's time.”

The defense team decided to rest.

In 2006, Snipes was brought to court for failing to file income taxes, from 1999 to 2004. During this period, Snipes reportedly made a whopping $38 million.

Prosecutors claim that Snipes, 45, also used fake checks to receive about $12 million in 1996 and 1997 in taxes he'd already paid.

Snipes’ team pleaded not guilty to all counts, and said that the problem was bad tax advisors, nothing fraudulent on his behalf.

Snipes has been charged with tax fraud and conspiracy. If convicted, he could face 16 years behind bars.
