Rapper makes unsuccessful attempt to bail out two friends for gun charges

A judge stopped Ja Rule after the rap star attempted to bail out two men for a gun possession charge.

According to TMZ.com, Supreme Court Justice Micki Scherer wouldn’t allow the rapper to post bail for his co-defendants, Dennis Cherry and Mohamed Gamal.

On July 22, 2007, Gamal was stopped for speeding in Ja Rule's 2004 Maybach and the police said they "detected a strong odor of marijuana" and ran a computer check and it was revealed that the vehicle had no insurance and a suspended registration. The police arrested all three men, although, according to Gamal's attorney, Eric Franz, no one was charged with marijuana possession.

According to reports, Ja Rule's bail is $150,000 bond or cash; Cherry's bail is $150,000 bond or $75,000 cash and Gamal's bail is $20,000 bond or $10,000 cash.

"[Ja Rule] has put himself in the position of perhaps controlling the outcome of the case. I think the potential for it is a big problem," Judge Scherer said.

The judge advised Gamal and Cherry to come up with their own bail packages.

Ja Rule, real name Jeffrey Atkins, is currently preparing the release of his next album titled The Mirror.
