For those who have seen Usher’s video for “Love In This Club” the phone he uses to text his love interest was the first peek at the R&B superstar’s latest business venture. Usher and mobile company, Sony Ericsson has teamed up for a one-year partnership. The singer will be releasing his own version of the Sony Ericsson “Walkman” phone, also known as the W580i, a portable music device in which his fans will be able to enjoy VIP access to exclusive content only available via the phone. Users will also be able to enter contests with prizes that include the chance to win show tickets and vote for the artists and band members who will join Usher on stage for his North American tour in Fall 2008.
Usher spoke about the importance of cell phones and mobile music for the future saying that, “you can’t live life without [cell phones]. I believe cell phones will matter more than any other electronic device.” The singer also announced his June 6 concert at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem. He says this concert will be very intimate and special because it will be his first time “performing an entire set at the Apollo.” Usher’s new album, Here I Stand (Sony BMG) was released yesterday.
